The Sportsman 550 and 850 first arrived in 2009, and both share the new-style chassis with the engine repositioned 90 degrees so that the crankshaft is in line with the driveshaft. The smaller brother to the 850 has been a popular model, and in fact we received more survey forms on the Sportsman 550 than we did on the bigger one. According to the survey results, Sportsman 550 owners appreciate the power steering and easy riding comfort of their machines. Many bought the two-up touring version and liked how their machine can handle a passenger as well.
There are some 4x4 owners who focus more on performance riding, like what the Scrambler provides, but Sportsman 550 owners here seem to value the leisurely side of trail riding. If you fit into that category, then this may be the quad for you as well. Check out these survey results to see how it compares. There are new 2014 Sportsman 550s at your Polaris dealer, and you could also keep an eye out for earlier models for sale on the local used market.
