The Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Racing
Family extends its condolences to the Penland family, and mourns the
loss of their son, Hoyt. Hoyt a GNCC racer and the son of 12-time GNCC
Champion Mike Penland, passed away in his sleep on the evening of
Thursday, July 25th.
He was 25 years old.
Hoyt, of
Rabun Gap, Georgia, was an accomplished racer, competing in the GNCC U2
class for several seasons. At the Baja 1000 in 2007, he sustained a
catastrophic leg injury, which led to numerous surgeries and
complications. Showing the true spirit of a racer, he fought hard to
recover.
The staff at Racer Productions asks everyone within the
GNCC community to keep Hoyt, his parents Mike and Wanda, and the entire
Penland family, in their thoughts and prayers during this tragic time.
Godspeed, Hoyt.
