H&S Performance’s second annual Fuel Festival was another hit! With diesel-truck dyno competitions, an Ultimate MX Challenge, UTV Challenge, Tough Truck 4×4 race, BMX stunts and an FMX show, there was something for everyone to see. Plus, a world-record longest jump in a UTV attempt by 2012 WORCS UTV champion Ryan Piplic made this event so attractive! Over $70,000 in purse money and lots of spectators made the action in all of the events very competitive! The event was held at St. George MX Park (www.stgeorgemx
.com) in St. George, Utah. The track this year was just under a one-mile lap, with a quick mix of MX, enduro and trails. The EnduroCross section included concrete tube jumps, tractor tires and a rock garden. The motocross track was set up for a very fast pace, with doubles, triples, a step-up and a short set of whoops. The trail section was very beat up from past events but still very fast.

Fuel Fest is part UTV, part MX freestyle show and part Tough Truck racing in the motorsports-friendly city of St. George, Utah.

This race had a good mix of driver and machine combinations. Racers choose to have a passenger like this Can-Am pilot and some did it solo.

Ryan Piplic took first in his WORCS-setup RZR XP 900. In second place was Jory Royce, followed by Kacey Piep in third. It was a battle to the end between the driver, the car and the very challenging course. This kind of course is very hard to race; it’s more about picking lines that will save the car. About one-third of the drivers didn’t finish.

EnduroCross-style racing and UTVs are a good mix. They have four-wheel drive and are meant to go over gnarly obstacles, even more so than over big jumps. We hope to see more of this kind of racing in the future in different venues.

After the racing was complete, Ryan Piplic set the world record for the longest jump in a UTV in a slightly modified Polaris RZR XP 1000! He took the jump at over 75 mph at the lip and sailed 155 feet, 8 inches  for the record. We are sure next year will be filled with much more of the same entertaining action and fun for everyone to come out and see. For dates, log on to www.fallfuelfest.com.

Ryan Piplic, the 2012 WORCS champion, extended his racing season by competing at Fuel Fest. He won easily, then later that night set the world-record distance jump in a UTV at 155 feet, 8 inches.
