31 tools in one small kit By the staff of Dirt Wheels

Malcolm Smith Racing (MSR) has been a major player in the off-road industry for decades. MSR is a company known for producing exceptional riding gear, helmets, packs, accessories, and more. While scrolling through their catalog, we found a tool kit that we had to have. The Ultra Lite socket set holds 31 tools in one compact kit for $78.95. It can be a pain trying to carry around a bunch of heavy tools on trail rides, especially when your machine might not have storage for it. Finding a tool kit that has this many options at such a compact size is a plus.

The case is 9 by 4 by 1.5 inches in size, and there are two mounting straps on the back of it so you can mount it to your machine.

THE TOOLS

The MSR Ultra Lite metric tool kit comes with a dual-sided ratcheting wrench. One end is a 19mm socket type, while the other end is a 14mm socket style. You can loosen or tighten with the wrench by flipping it over. Inside the carrying case are nine sockets that can be placed in the ratchet, so you can utilize the size you need for the job. It comes with the 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17mm sockets.

Above the wrench in the MSR tool kit you will find two rails of tool bits and an adapter that fits in the 14mm end of the ratcheting wrench. The rails have three different sizes of flat-head screwdriver bits, six Phillips screwdriver bits, four different Allen bits and seven Torx bit sizes. These tools are the most commonly found sizes and types for motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs. The only tool we wish the kit included is an extension to get to hard-to-reach locations.

EASY TO USE

When you are out on the trail and something comes loose, this MSR kit is easy to get out of your pack, find the right tool and tighten the loose part. Most bolts and nuts on a Japanese-manufactured ATV are metric. The ratcheting wrench is very durable, and the ratcheting functions are smooth.

Having spent time on the side of the trail fixing broken parts and replacing or tightening nuts and bolts, this kit is a must-have for any ATV or UTV rider. It is lightweight, compact and easy to store in a backpack or in your machine’s storage compartment. You can pick one up from MSR by going to www.msracing.com or visiting your nearest dealer.
