2016 Polaris Outlaw and Sportsman 110 First Look

2016-polaris-youth-family_0077Here’s some good news for our younger readers. Polaris punched up the engine size of their 90cc quads to 112cc, although they rounded off the name to 110. In a surprising move, they also replaced the carburetor with fuel injection, which is a first for youth-sized quads. The bigger engine and EFI will obviously provide more power, along with easier cold starting, smoother idling and improved throttle response throughout the rpm range. Just from the engine upgrades alone, the new Outlaw 110 and Sportsman 110 will have better off-road performance than the previous models.

LOOKING CLOSER
The 110 engines of the Outlaw and Sportsman remain as air-cooled fourstrokes—the same as the previous 90. They both retain electric starting and the automatic CVT transmission as before, along with a reverse gear. Drum brakes remain in the front and rear as well. Front suspension travel is 5 inches, with 6 inches in the rear. We would have loved to see Polaris go to double A-arms on the front, but these quads still have single A-arms like the 90. Perhaps that will be the next upgrade in another year or so.

THE SAFETY CATEGORY
Polaris has always focused on the safety side of things when it comes to their youth models. They provide a free DOT-approved helmet when you buy one of their mini quads, and you get two if you buy the RZR 170. The Sportsman 110 and Outlaw 110 come with a safe-riding video, along with a high-visibility whip flag. Headlights that stay on during the day help out in that regard as well. These two quads also have throttle limiters that adults can adjust to fit their son or daughter’s riding ability.

ADDITIONAL INFO
The Outlaw 110 has a claimed weight of 278 pounds and comes in Voodoo Blue. The Sportsman 110 weighs 292 pounds with racks and comes in Sage Green. Polaris is telling us that these quads will be available at their dealers about the time you read this. The price for each is $3099, which is up from the 90 that sold for $2799. However, the bigger engine and fuel injection should be worth the extra $300. Stay tuned for a test of these quads in an upcoming issue.
