2023 REC/UTILITY UTV BUYER’S GUIDE: ARCTIC CAT TO JOHN DEERE

UTVs know how to get the job done, but they also know how to show folks a good time—that’s the “rec” part of “rec utility.” Some of the 2023 side-by-sides kind of blur the line between sport and recreation models. And these aren’t your bare-bones models from previous years. Some of today’s rec-utility models have high-end features, like heating and air conditioning, plush suspensions, tires of all kinds and sizes, glass windshields, gas-assisted dumping cargo beds, and the list goes on and on.

Not into all those fancy features? There are models that will appeal to those who need a work vehicle that doesn’t mind taking a beating and being worked hard, or that mind getting a little scratched up as you make your way into and then back out of your secret hunting or fishing spot.

The dust seems to have settled after an “interesting” couple of pandemic years. Well, sort of. There has been a shakeup of sorts within several companies, as models were dropped with a handful of new ones introduced. Some impressive changes to existing vehicles have also been made.

We focused on just the rec-utility models in this “Buyer’s Guide.” There are more than a hundred models included here, and that includes a newcomer to the industry (Volcon) and another that has come back after a year of absence (Roxor).

We couldn’t even include all the UTV manufacturers. There simply wasn’t enough room to do so. Those we unfortunately had to bypass this year are Bobcat (www.bobcat.com/utv), Tomcar (https://tomcar.com), Kioti (www.kioti.com) and Roxor (www.roxoroffroad.com).

We don’t just reprint the previous year’s “Buyer’s Guide.” No, we double-check everything—from the specs to the features to the new additions on each model. We know manufacturers are constantly refining their vehicles, and weights, dimensions or features change from year to year. And, some models are the same as the previous year’s, except for the MSRP. Unfortunately, the Price: went up (in some cases thousands of dollars) on most every model on the market.

We should also note that three manufacturers—CFMoto, Kymco and Massimo—did not have updated specs for 2023 at the time we went to press. But rather than leave them out, we chose to include their 2022 models and specs. We don’t anticipate too much will change in those models, but we’ve included the company websites below so you can check for updates.
