-- DIRT WHEELS READERS OF THE MONTH -- Dear Dirt Wheels, Here we are in November on our annual NY area Cop, Fireman and E.M.S. ride.  We are at the quarry on The Rock House Trail System in West Virginia. This is a yearly event for us where we drive down, stay for a week and enjoy the great ATV trails and Southern Hospitality. Along with the fantastic riding that The Hatfield and McCoy Trail System has to offer, we really appreciate the break from our hectic schedules.   Pictured from left to right are Jim, Paul,…

UTV SEATS BUYER’S GUIDE

-- The best seats in the house -- By the staff of Dirt Wheels.  -- There are some off-road enthusiasts who spend a lot of time behind the wheel of a UTV, like us at Dirt Wheels; we have logged a lot of hours driving UTVs. One of the biggest things we’ve noticed is that the OEM seats can become uncomfortable, or your body moves around quite a bit depending on the model and terrain that you’re in. Whether you notice it or not, fatigue can strike when you are sitting in a seat for so long. Some of the…

TWIN AIR GAS FILTER

-- PRODUCT TEST -- Engines guzzle gasoline, ingest air and, in return, breathe fire and power! They may sound tough, but in reality, an engine can be fragile and susceptible to internal damage if you don’t take care of it properly. One of our editors, Collin Duffy, built a radical Honda TRX450R race quad, and he is always looking for ways to enhance his machine and prolong its lifespan. One such product is Twin Air’s new gas-tank fuel filter. A NEW WAY More often than not you will see…

RYNO STAND SYSTEM

-- Testing this smart new workbench that connects to your trailer hitch: -- As off-road enthusiasts, we all know that when we get excited to ride we can end up breaking parts or taking out tires. We also like to spend time with the family with rides that involve camping out and cookouts. With not being able to take a lot of tools or cooking gear with us, it can be a real head-scratcher on what is more important to take. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a tool that could provide options for both? Well, now there…

2018 YAMAHA KODIAK 450

--First test of Yamaha's exciting new 4x4 -- When Yamaha discontinued the Grizzly 450, we were disappointed that such a great mid-class 4x4 quad had left the market. The various Grizzly models have been a staple in the 4x4 industry for over a decade, and the Kodiak was also well liked until Yamaha stopped producing them for a period of years. Fortunately, the Kodiak 700 was introduced in 2016 and was well received, and the Grizzly 700 remained one of the best-selling 4x4 ATVs around. But, Yamaha’s 4x4 lineup…

K&N RZR XP AIR FILTER

-- PRODUCT TEST By the staff of Dirt Wheels -- Polaris RZR XP models come standard with a large, pleated paper filter. Ours had far too many miles on it when we changed it. So many miles, in fact, that a cloud of dirt fell out when we tapped it. Nevertheless, the stock $37.99 filter had stopped any dirt from entering the intake. We couldn’t see any evidence of dirt getting through the filter. Paper filters do work well for dust, but they are not reusable, and they do not take water well. …

CanAm has renewed their sponsorship with NASCAR! The Can-Am 500 was held this weekend in Pheonix, AZ. Not on did the BRP brand host the race but also the sponsor for Matt DiBenedetto of the GoFAS racing team. With many NASCAR fans also being off road enthusiasts, especially in Arizona, Can-Am took advantage of the opportunity to show everyone what their brand is all about. BRP hosted a number of lucky guests for VIP treatment at the race this weekend. Dealers, fans, media, and contest winners came from far and wide…

GLOVE BUYER’S GUIDE

-- Dexterity work gloves comfortable to drive or ride with -- “Dexterity” derives from the Latin word “dexter,” which means “skill in performing tasks, especially with the hands.” We know this because Google told us so. But gloves are an important item to wear while wrenching, riding or driving. Only certain people can ride gloveless for a long duration without getting blisters. Mere mortals need extra protection. Riding gloves are starting to go up in price and are usually built thin, which means they won’t last for an…

30 Three-Wheelers Invade Lake Elsinore GP

An enthusiastic group of Three-Wheeler racers hit the rough, miles long course at what Dirt Series called the 49th Annual Lake Elsinore Grand Prix. While it has been 49 years since the first event, there were many years when it wasn't held. Basically from the early 1970s until 1996 when Riverside resident Goat Breker brought the GP back. Now it is run by Dirt Series in conjunction with the city of Lake Elsinore. Tom Decrescente (63) and Cody Webber (20) were first and second in the ATC 250cc class, and Dwight Jeckel…

PRODUCT – CoolKASE Cooler

Summers get sweltering here in Southern California just like many other places in this world. Often times we are out on the trail in temps that reach over 100 degrees and taking a nice drink of hot water really isn't nice at all. Instead, we like to be able to take a drink of a crisp cold beverage, and that is why we decided to test out the CoolKase by BiKase. WHAT IT IS The CoolKASE is an 8"x11"x9" soft cooler that can be mounted to the racks of an ATV, or strapped down to a UTV. This little cooler can hold up to…
