$6,999 KODIAK 700 vs. $5,999 VLX 700

-- Not everyone wants to spend 10 grand or more for a big 4x4 quad. For the more economy minded they automatically look at the lower-priced 500 - 550 4x4 quads in a manufacturer's line up. But then Yamaha said, "Hey, it costs us just about the same to make 550 engine as a 700 engine, so why not just offer a basic 700 with no bells and whistles for the price of a 550." And so, the Kodiak 700 was born. It sells for $6,999. The guys at Arctic Cat saw the logic in that approach, so they offered up a lower-priced version…

TUESDAY TREAD: AMS Radial Pro UTV Tires

Eventually, everyone will want new tires on their UTVs, and when they do, there is always the question of, which ones do I buy? A lot of factors come into play when choosing the right tires to better suit your driving style and terrain. Recently, we tested a set of the AMS Radial Pro on an Arctic Cat Wildcat Sport 700. We decided to mount the front 26x9R12 and rear 26x11R12 tires on the stock rims. The Radial Pro is a DOT-approved, eight-ply, directional tire with staggered V-shaped lugs in the center and…

TEXTRON GOES AFTER THE POLARIS GENERAL

More power and more suspension travel for the Textron Stampede! The Dirt Wheels crew was mightily impressed with the original Stampede 900 we tested in our December 2016 issue. It covered all of the bases for what a good utility machine is suppose to do. However, we couldn't help but wonder how much better it would suit our tastes if its sporty side was bumped up a few more notches. It seems like the guys at Textron were thinking the same thing and here is the preliminary version of what they came up with. At this point…

Here is the first report of the new Wildcat XX that Arctic Cat just released. We have a Dirt Wheels crew member heading back to the office with the full scoop, but this is a brief rundown on what we know so far: The engine is a 998cc three-cylinder very similar to what Yamaha uses in their YXZ1000R. The YXZ version makes 114 horsepower, but Arctic Cat claims their version makes 125 horsepower. It uses King shocks with 17.5 inches of travel front and rear. The wheels are KMC 15 inchers with 30 inch tires. The XX comes with…

MAKES 211 HORSEPOWER FROM THE SHOWROOM!

NEW WILDCAT TURBO PREVIEW: We received word from Arctic Cat a couple months ago that they were going to introduce an exciting new UTV model. However, that intro got delayed by the reorganization of business, which involved Textron becoming the parent company. Things seem to be getting in order now, so we're expecting Arctic Cat's secret new model to get back on schedule and be revealed soon. And, we have a pretty good idea of what it'll be. A while back we told you about Yamaha's Sidewinder snowmobiles that use the…

HOW-TO: 10 Tips on Buying a Used UTV

As the UTV market expands, there are a lot of enthusiasts purchasing new machines and putting their old ones on the market. Those used machines can be where a smart buyer stakes their claim on a handsome deal for a (new to them) UTV. With sites like Craigslist and atvtrader, there are many options to view the available herd of UTVs, and begin the process of narrowing down the quality values and weeding out the not-so-promising SxSs. Research is key when it comes to finding the right machine at the right price, however that’s…
