Good riding places are hard to find. That’s whey we are pumped that Cahuilla Creek MX track, about 60 miles east of the L.A. basin, is under new ownership. And the new owner loves ATVS.
The land itself is still on an Indian reservation, but the lease is now held by Johnny Leach, who is making big strides to make it into a first class racing facility. He’s actually building a separate track for ATVs, and next year he has scheduled a QuadCross event and a WORCS event there.
We spent Friday afternoon there testing for an upcoming issue of Dirt Wheels. The primary job was a comparison of 90cc minis, which are designed for 12-year-olds. For test riders, we had Johnny’s son Brandon and his football team buddy Koy Stewart. Brandon regularly races a Yamaha Raptor 250 while Koy has a Kawasaki KX85 and only occasionally rides a quad. The two of them seemed to have a blast, and so did we.
Cahuilla Creek is open most weekends and Wednesdays for practice . Check out the website: www.cahuillacreekmotocross.com.
