— The shocking news came during the summer of the first year of the new century. It first appeared on the front cover of the May 2000 issue of Dirt Wheels. The whole off-road world saw an all-new quad from an all-new ATV company. It was the very first quad with a fuel-injected, 4-valve, DOHC, 4-stroke engine. It was the very first quad with a high-tech aluminum frame. It was the very first high-performance quad that was developed and manufactured by an American company in the USA. What was this ground-breaking machine? In case you don’t know, you can learn in the same way everyone else did back then. Experience what they did by viewing the front cover of our May 2000 issue. Take a look below and also read the first news on this machine that appeared inside.

Here is a view of the first production Cannondale FX400 that had some changes from the original prototype that was first shown.

So, whatever happened to the Cannondale quads and dirt bikes? Why did the company go bankrupt? It’s an interesting story and we’ll have a report on that in another post coming up. Stay tuned.
