Aboard his N-Fab AmPro Yamaha YFZ450R, Walker Fowler took his first XC1 Pro win of the 2014 GNCC off-road racing season in Washington, Ga. on Saturday afternoon, March 15. Together with last weekend’s podium in Florida, the win ties Fowler for the points lead with multi-time champion Chris Borich as the 13-event series gathers speed. Meanwhile in the XC2 Pro Am class, teammate Cole Richardson won for the second weekend in a row after grabbing the holeshot on his YFZ450R. He now commands the points lead in his class, giving Yamaha a fantastic start to the GNCC ATV season.

In contrast to last week’s mud in Florida, course conditions at “The General” event in Georgia were dry. Although rival Adam McGill took the holeshot to begin the afternoon combined XC1 Pro and XC2 Pro Am race, Fowler pounced quickly to take over the lead. Aided by a slow start for perennial rival Borich, the Yamaha rider applied maximum effort throughout the duration of the race, leading every lap. Though it was hardly easy. Fowler was able to gain only a slender 3.7-sec. lead over McGill by the halfway point of the nearly two-hour race, but from there he accelerated ahead, ultimately stretching his lead to well over a minute at the finish. “It feels good right now, and we’re going to do everything we can to make it exciting for the fans because that’s what keeps us going,” Fowler said. “If I can win some more races I’m going to be really happy.”

Starting behind the XC1 Pro field, in XC2 Pro Am, Richardson had just as successful an afternoon as Fowler, leading all four laps to win his class by over three minutes and beating over half the XC1 Pro field in the process. Yamaha bLU cRU riders also excelled in Sunday’s motorcycle events, as N-Fab AmPro Yamaha’s Jordan Ashburn, Paul Whibley and Josh Strang took second through fourth, respectively, in the XC1 Pro class on their YZ450Fs. Now with a pair of podium finishes, Whibley is tied for the XC1 Pro motorcycle points lead with rival Charlie Mullins. Then in the XC2 Pro Lites class, Raines Racing/Atlas Sales’ Ricky Russell grabbed a fourth on his YZ250F, while in the morning WXC class, bLU cRU’s Jessica Patterson took third on her YZ250F behind fellow Yamaha rider Becca Sheets. Patterson’s back-to-back podiums pull her up to second in the standings.
