Check out Arctic Cats 2015 machines!

This fall, Arctic Cat announced several major additions to its lineup for the 2015 model year. On the ATV side, a completely new generation of four-wheelers going by the name of XR will be added to an already-stacked lineup of one- and two-passenger models. We did get a few details on these machines just before this magazine went to print and wanted to share them with you.

One feature that crosses model lines is a new CVT gasket material that Arctic Cat claims reduces cockpit noise levels by 8 percent. We like that some manufacturers are addressing the noise issue, making the side-byside riding experience as good as it can be. Additionally, all the EFI models now have new exhaust systems with an oxygen-sensing feature that optimizes power output, reduces emissions, and Arctic Cat claims increases moderate-speed fuel economy an impressive 25 percent.

XR ATVs
These new models are built solely by Arctic Cat in Minnesota and feature new composite racks and durable new plastic bodywork with great styling. The three machines—500, 550 and 700—feature a 2-inch-longer wheelbase (at 52 inches), new suspension geometry and ergonomics that will make them feel much more modern. The 500 unit is actually powered by a 443cc, SOHC, EFI-equipped engine with liquid-cooling. The 550 (545cc) and 700 (695cc) share the same chassis and engine design with the smaller 500.

The rest of the lineup stays the same, with two Mud Pro models highlighting the racing aspect of the game, the 1000XT for people who need more power, a diesel, two-ups, TBX (work-horse), sport 4×4 450XC, DVX 300, and the 90 and 50 give an option for the kids. On the pure utility side, there are sizes from 300 (2WD) all the way up to 1000 to overfill dealers’ showrooms.

WILD CAT SPORT
One of 11 different versions of the Wildcat UTV, the Sport is the newest addition. It’s been less than a year since Arctic Cat jumped into the smaller sport UTV market with the 50-inch-wide Trail model. This expansion fills the gap for riders who want to go a bit faster on wider trails or don’t want the extra expense of an even larger 1000. There are three versions of the 60-inch-wide Sport, and it has the same retro buggy look as the larger 1000cc Wildcat. New JRI shocks come standard on the base and X models, while very high-end Elka Stage 5 shocks come standard only on the Limited version.

Powering the new Sport model is the same peppy, parallel-twin, DOHC engine that is found in the Trail models. The differences to this machine are solely in the suspension department with its wider A-arms on all four corners. Of course the axle and brake lines had to be lengthened as well to get that wide 60-inch stance. Like the Trail, the Sport has a great high power-to-weight ratio that could allow the 700 to keep up with much larger machines. In fact, this Sport model only weighs 51 pounds more than the narrow Trail model. Dry weight of the EPS-equipped Wildcat Sport Limited is only 1074 pounds.

PROWLER
In the more utility-based Prowler line, the 550, 700 and 1000cc two-seaters and new bodywork find their way to the showroom. Better yet, this new body change lends itself to a bunch of great new storage options for work or play. First off, the glovebox is over 130 percent larger and has a much more positive-locking closure. In front of that, a 22-gallon storage bin under the hood can now be easily accessed with a push of a button that doesn’t require you to lift the entire hood up. Finally, the dead space under the driver’s seat gets a new side-accessible storage box that can hold all manner of items, like jumper cables, tow ropes, chains, etc. All of the storage and styling changes are welcome additions to the line, and we hope they make it to all versions of the Prowler in the near future.
