BUYER’S GUIDE: BUDGET SPORT & UTILITY TRAIL TIRES

New rubber for $100 and under.

For typical trail tires, the sizes run from 20×10-9 in the rear to 21 or 22×7-10 up front for sport quads. This spec is what comes stock on nearly every quad except, of course, the track-ready machines like Suzuki’s LT-R450, KTM’s SX machines and Can-Am’s DS450XMX.
On the utility or 4×4 side of things, the range is 25×9-12s or 26×9-14 up front and 25×10 or 11-12s to 26×11-14s in the rear. Some smaller (under 450cc) machines may even use a 24×12 setup.
The question is, where do you go when you need to replace your worn-out stock tires? Money is tight, and you don’t need to run the same set of meats as the top pros. We gathered specs on the most popular budget treads for the sport and utility trail market, and listed them in some easy-to-compare charts to help make that decision.
