Production Moto 1: My #94 YFZ 450R pulled hard down the long start straight and helped me grab the first holeshot of the night with Jason Dunkleberger and Beau Baron in tow. I’ve always enjoyed the Speedworld track as it rewards riders who can push the limits without going over. Out front with clear track ahead I put in some of my fastest laps of the night and pulled a 10 second gap by the halfway point of our 20 minutes plus 1 lap moto. The battle for second was fierce as Dunk and Baron were rarely more than a second apart though out the entire race. Dunk was able to fight off every challenge that Baron threw his way as I stretched my lead to 12 seconds. At the finish I took the win with Dunk just holding off Baron for second. Justin Noss worked his way up from a first lap incident to claim fourth and Jesse Goss rounded out the top five.
Production Moto 2: Noss made up for his first lap problem in moto one by grabbing the second moto holeshot and taking the $250 GYTR/Yamalube holeshot award. I was second and Baron third as we rounded turn two. Just before the end of lap one Noss drifted wide exiting a right hand sweeper and I was able to pull up next to him over a table top and into the next corner. Noss tried to cut back underneath me but I had the preferred line as we came together on corner exit. Once again out front with clear track I turned the fastest lap of the night with a 1:52.972 on the third lap, gapping more than two seconds a lap on the rest of the field. At the halfway mark my lead was 10 seconds over the battle for second as Baron made his way past Noss to take over the spot. When the checkers flew I took the win with a 14 second lead on Baron and Noss. The battle for fourth wasn’t decided until the last lap as Dunk made his way past Jason Fife to steal the spot just before the finish.
Round seven of the Yamaha/ITP Quadcross series was another great night of racing. We claimed the wins in both the Pro Production and Open Pro classes going 4 for 4 on moto wins for the night. That’s 5 wins out of 7 races in the Pro Production class, adding to our all important points lead. I’m definitely looking forward to our next round scheduled to be at Racetown 395 on October 24th.
