IS THE BELLY OF YOUR MACHINE PROTECTED?

— WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT SKID PLATES —

Have you ever been riding down a trail and came to a section that had rocks and boulders you had to cross? While making your way through you cringe as you hear rocks scraping against the frame, A-arms and other metal parts down there. Well, that’s why skid plates were invented. They come in handy for protecting your quad or UTV and providing peace of mind.

Ricochet Off-road Armor is a company that is well known for building quality skid plates. The Dirt Wheels crew has been using their stuff for 35 years and we know they’re well designed and are precisely cut to fit each individual model of ATV or UTV. They have always used strong 3/16″ 5052 H-32 aluminum, but have recently added the option of UHMW plastic as well.

We thought we’d take a look at what all Ricochet offers, so you can see what options you have before spending your money. We’re going to use the Yamaha Grizzly 4×4 quad as an example. The standard first option are the belly pans that run the length of the under carriage. Next you have skid plates that cover the A-arms, axles and CV joints. After that, you may want to run skid plates underneath the plastic floor boards where your feet rest.

A new option you have now are the UHMW plastic skids that mount right over your machine’s existing plastic skids to make them stronger. These usually require less effort to get mounted up. So, take a look below and you’ll get a good idea of what options you have and what the prices are.
