The third round of the ITP QuadCross went off as scheduled on the day following the Glen Helen National Motocross (two-wheel version). It was an amazing feat of logistics as one set of 18-wheelers was leaving the raceway just as another was entering. Despite the drain on the Glen Helen staff, the course was prepped and ready for the ATVs within a few hours of the motorcycles getting the checkered flag.
Frenchman Jeremie Warnia came out on top rather easily, winning both motos despite the best efforts of Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson. In the first moto, Warnia pulled the holeshot and never surrendered the lead. At one point, Nelson pulled even with the Frenchman after Warnia overshot a turn, but within a lap Nelson made a costly mistake of his own.
The second moto was Nelson’s to take, as he pulled the holeshot with Warnia several places behind. But Warnia was simply riding harder than anyone else. There was one downhill double jump that Nelson wouldn’t attempt in the second moto, but Warnia did it every time. That alone was enough for him to take the lead and pull away. Third place went to another French rider, Couprie Romain on a Yamaha. Justin Noss was fourth. WORCS rider Josh Fredrich suffered a terrible crash on the same downhill double and didn’t finish.
