John Mitchell reminded everyone what it takes to become British Champion by taking the double win in true champion style this weekend at round two of the CCM British MMX Quad Championships.

It was the perfect way to get back into the championship title race after a troubled first round. With John’s ankle out of cast and two weeks of extra development on his Yamaha YFZ450 Laeger, John was confident of a strong performance.

After securing a solid place on the start line, John took an awesome holeshot in race one and didn’t look back, taking a commanding first place with Jason Macbeth in second and Paul Winrow in third. In race two, John again took the holeshot, a testament to the improved performance of his Yamaha YFZ450 Laeger and regained fitness. John was flying and took the fastest lap of both races! He finished 18 seconds in front of second placed Jason Macbeth and 40 in front of championship leader Joe Maessen.

John said afterwards “With the all new improved Scorpion Mitchell Extreme Exhaust working beautifully and the Duncan Racing engine, I had all the power I needed and more! The new ITP Holeshot GNCC tyres gave me the grip and confidence to push my Yamaha YFZ450 Laeger into the holeshot on both races. Blaxhall Pit’s is one of the roughest tracks but my Elka suspension set-up made light work of it”.

Meanwhile team ATV World Yamaha rider Paul Holmes had superb results. After getting caught behind an accident early on in race one, it was a great achievement to reach 13th place with some impressive overtaking. In race two, Paul again had a difficult start, getting caught behind another accident. But, he went on to have an outstanding race and made it to 10th, 12th overall in the championship. Paul Holmes has made a secure start and aims to break into the top ten within the next few rounds, already the highest scoring under 21.

Both John Mitchell and Paul Holmes, along with team ATV World Yamaha will be racing next at the first round of the Pro Class, IOPD British Quad-X Championship, 6th and 7th May, Foxholes, Wiltshire. Round three of the CCM British MMX Quad Championships is at Asham Woods, Frome on May 28th – see you there!
