FLY LITE HYDROGEN RIDING GEAR TEST
— New technology for comfort & protection —
Product Evaluation by the staff of Dirt Wheels
— Fly Racing is known for creating bright and uniquely designed gear, and the 2018 Lite Hydrogen gear line is no different. Other than being eye-catching, this gear line upped its design level by featuring lightweight and breathable material, as well as revolutionary qualities that redefine the market.
LITE HYDROGEN JERSEY, $49.95
This jersey is known as the first true lightweight race wear to hit the market, including laser-cut perforations to help dissipate heat and allow for airflow. The jersey is constructed with multi-panels for maximum performance and comfortable fit. This jersey can be put through the wringer and hold up without looking worn and torn. The colors and graphics are also long-lasting and will continue to make you look fly after years of wear. The low-profile, multi-directional mesh collar is not restrictive and is tagless, which prevents unwanted and annoying itching that occurs with traditional tags. This athletic-fit jersey fits close to the body, and the extended tail will keep it tucked in.
LITE HYDROGEN PANTS, $169.95
The Lite Hydrogen pant continues with the revolutionary design by including the Boa system. The Boa system is a waist-adjustment system that offers fast, on-the-go micro-adjustability to provide you with a custom and comfortable fit—no need to worry about your pants falling down. The lightweight pant includes mesh panels on the back of the knee and lower leg that allow breathability and comfort during your ride. The pants include contoured knees to accommodate for most types of knee braces and guards, preventing the struggle of trying to squeeze it all in. Overall, these pants were designed for comfort, style and to last.
LITE GLOVES, $21.95
These gloves are lightweight and soft, providing any rider with a sense of security and comfort. The gloves are made with spandex mesh finger sidewalls and gussets for improved airflow, lightweight feel, and durability. The palms include a single layer of synthetic leather for improved airflow and protection to prevent the formation of blisters. Main features also include silicone finger grippers and a reinforced double-layer thumb for increased functionality. These gloves are so light and comfortable, you will forget you are even wearing them.
FEELING THE FLOW
The entire Lite Hydrogen kit that we tested was very light, hence the “Lite” in its name. The Boa system is as cool as it gets. No more “waisting” time (see what we did there) with conventional Velcro waist adjusters. With just the turn of the Boa knob, it tightens up quickly and doesn’t come loose! This kit also offers cooling ports throughout the material, which was a godsend in hotter months. The gloves offer exceptional hand traction. Whether it was with a thumb or twist throttle, they provided great grip, and we ended a long test day in the rain and muck without any blisters.
Fly Racing has come so far from their inception. They are now considered one of the greats in technology, fit and form in the gear world. This is one of the best kits we’ve tested, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
