PRODUCT EVALUATION: SHELL 1-AMP BATTERY CHARGER & MAINTAINER
Support for your battery By the staff of Dirt Wheels
The Shell 1-amp battery charger & maintainer charges 12- and 6-volt batteries. It automatically detects the battery voltage, and is safe for charging lead-acid, flooded, gel, AGM, and lithium-ion batteries. This charger provides multiple levels of protection against short circuit, reverse polarity, over-temperature, defective battery, over-charging, over-voltage and over-current. The included charging cables are fused, adding another layer of safety. Multi-stage charging includes desulfation, soft start, bulk, absorption, battery test and trickle. Charging adjusts when the battery is full.
One-amp microprocessor-controlled trickle chargers are very useful for keeping batteries charged, and are an important part of getting the full performance and life from any battery. We used the Shell 1-amp battery charger & maintainer to keep a Honda Pioneer 520’s battery ready for action, and it did a fine job.
The charger’s cable clamps are compact enough to work well with small UTV battery terminals and confined battery locations. They are large enough for car and truck battery terminals. The charger cables also include the standard plug for trickle charger pigtails, and a pigtail that can be left attached to your machine’s battery for easy plug-in charging.
The Shell 1-amp battery charger & maintainer plugs directly into an outlet or extension cord, and a simple single-button selector lets you choose 6-, 12-volt or lithium-ion batteries. Indicator lights show power on, reversed-terminal error, charge mode and charge level (charging or full). This charger has one major advantage over others we’ve seen for conventional lead-acid batteries. It has the ability to charge lithium-ion batteries. Normally, they require a separate, special charger.
The Shell 1-amp battery charger & maintainer works as well as common trickle chargers and saves the cost of buying a separate charger for lithium-ion batteries. The charger is $35 from www.amazon.com, which is about five bucks more than other 1-amp chargers.
