RACING THE RATHVARNA: AN 88’ TRX 250R WITH A BUILT 350X ENGINE
Kenn Bailly, a 56-year-old machinist and welder, has been racing since he was 19 years old. He has built many parts for his vehicles and has developed personal tricks to improve his performance on the track. Recently, he saw the story of Daryl Rath’s Rathvarna trike, which Dirt Wheels Magazine covered. Interestingly, Kenn has actually raced against the central Minnesota native and even competed closely with him in some intense Sioux Valley Cycle Club night racing.
He races an air-cooled 88’ TRX 250R with a built up 350X motor. On his championship night race, he entered in three different categories – three-wheeler ovals, air-cooled, and open three-wheelers. Although he was exhausted, he still managed to wrap up the championship title. His expertise as a machinist and welder has given him an advantage in developing custom parts for his vehicles, which has helped him compete and beat other seasoned racers, including Daryl Rath. Although he said Daryl was on a 200X when he beat him. He gives much praise to Daryl and the other close competitors in his class. Kenn said when Daryl is on his “Rathvarna” trike, he couldn’t keep up with him and said it is an incredible machine.
