RIGID TO SUSPENSION

EARLY HONDA ATC200 SUSPENSION

DW FAN WRITES IN: We have several old Honda ATC200’s of various years. I was wondering what it would take to put real suspension under them? I know there used to be suspension kits available but I could not locate any searching Google. – Terry & James Whitworth, Terre Haute, IN.

OUR PRO ANSWER: Hate to tell you guys, but you are about 40 years too late for ATC200 suspension kits! Any companies that produced those suspension kits are long gone. Hi Performance ATC/ATV was at 1648 N. Magnolia Ave., El Cajon, California (714) 697-8121, and they arguably built the best suspended ATC kits back in the day. Don’t go looking for them, what is there now is Cali Glass-N-Tint. The easiest way today to suspend those rigid-frame ATCs is to find an ATC200X rolling chassis and drop your 200 engine in. It is a direct bolt up. Just swap your ignition and wiring because that may well be different and you would have instant suspension front and rear. Now be aware both suspension ends may need rebuilding, and don’t forget the swing-arm bearings and the steering-head bearings. The hard way is search the country for an old assembled kit. They show up from time to time but they are rare, and there is a growing pool of people who want them. Good Luck!
