FIRST LOOK: POLARIS GENERAL SPORT

How many Generals does the Polaris army need? By the staff of Dirt Wheels Back in 2016 Polaris set the benchmark for what has become the sport-recreation segment of UTVs. Once there were just utility UTVs, but Polaris introduced the first RZR 800 and created the sport UTV market. Those early RZR models are not nearly as “sport” as the base-model General was in 2016. Change is usually good. The General was an immediate hit with suspension that was close to a RZR S, a 60-inch track width, a usable bed and a great…

UTV TEST: 2020 CAN-AM MAVERICK X3 TURBO

Tremendous value, super performance By the staff of Dirt Wheels From the earliest introduction of the Can-Am Maverick X3 line, the byword has been” performance.” One year there was a normally aspirated model, but we never saw one. We have only experienced X3 versions with factory-installed turbos, and the lion’s share of those are intercooled turbos. In 2018 Can-Am started selling a lower-priced non-intercooled model simply called the X3 Turbo. That put it at 120 horsepower instead of the 172 ponies for the…

UTV SHOOTOUT: 2020 CAN-AM MAVERICK SPORT X XC VS. HONDA TALON 1000X

Trails to anywhere By the staff of Dirt Wheels Can-Am and Honda make two of the newest and most impressive 1000cc, normally aspirated, trail-focused UTVs on the market. It seemed only natural to get them together for a rigorous comparison to see which one has the goods for trails, and to find out where they excelled. Can-Am sent the all-new 64-inch 2020 Maverick Sport X xc that starts at a price of $21,199. It faced off with the $19,999 Honda Talon 1000 X. Of the two available two-seat Talons, the X is most comparable…

ATV TEST: 2020 SUZUKI KINGQUAD 750AXi

Get tough with the Rugged Edition By the staff of Dirt Wheels Suzuki made its biggest ATV-related release of the past decade with the fully redesigned 2019 KingQuad 500AXi and 750AXi. Since then, Suzuki hasn’t needed to make any updates due to the great quality and handling of the platform. It did, however, come out with Rugged variations of the two KingQuads that gain heavy-duty bumpers and a 10-inch LED light bar. We picked up a 750i to refresh our readers and ourselves on the machine. The 2020 Suzuki KingQuad…

JESSE HAINES WINS KING OF THE HAMMERS WITH HIS ROXOR

Off-road racer and fabricator Jesse Haines defied the odds by winning the 4600 class at the 2020 King of the Hammers’ Every Man Challenge in his Mahindra ROXOR. King of the Hammers is a unique event that combines elements of desert racing with rock crawling.  The punishing 143-mile course consisted of high-speed lake beds, rollercoaster-like roads, and some of the hardest rock crawling canyons in the world.  “We had very few issues, we got out of the car a couple of times but nothing major,” Haines shared at the finish line.…

FIRST RIDE: KAWASAKI TERYX KRX 1000

COMFORT AND PERFORMANCE We have been anxiously waiting our turn behind the wheel of the recently announced Teryx KRX 1000. Kawasaki Produced a remarkable desert test course for the drive. Thankfully, it wasn’t a fluffy, kiddy track, but one with fast smooth sections where we almost tick the governed top speed of 68 mph indicated. A variety of stunning steep and rocky climbs and descents were added to the real terrain. There were a number of tight, twisty areas, and some were in canyons that forced the KRX into narrow…
