TUESDAY TREAD: GBC DIRT COMMANDER TIRES

-- DIRT WHEELS TIRE TEST -- When a company is building a UTV, it isn’t a one-man job. There are teams for sub-sections of the machine: motor guys, chassis guys and suspension guys. We can tell you that the suspension guys yell loud and long to make sure that the tires are light to show off the suspension the best. Motor and chassis guys care about traction. When you actually own the UTV, you care about all of those things, but perhaps not as much as you care about getting back from your ride with no flats. Only you know…

TUESDAY TREAD: GBC SPARTACUS TIRES

-- TIRE TESTING,  By the staff of Dirt Wheels -- Now that we’re in fall and winter is fast approaching, we’re starting to get the itch to get a little mud on the tires. But, there’s nothing worse than going into battle with mud without the proper weapon. I’m sure we’ve all been in some mucky situations on our quads or UTVs without the proper tread installed, and we ended up losing some of those gooey battles. But, that doesn’t mean we must lose the war! Our 2017 Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 has been put…

TUESDAY TREAD: AMS M1 EVIL TIRE

-- By the staff of Dirt Wheels -- The M1 Evil looks aggressive just resting there. It has 1-inch lugs, and its eight-ply design has immense puncture protection. Our YXZ1000R SS loved the M1 Evil. It helped with traction in every situation, including low-speed crawling. The AMS M1 Evil is a multi-use, radial and non-directional UTV/ATV tire. The M1 Evil is designed to be used in the front or the rear, but you can use different sizes for both if you please. The tire employs a long-lasting compound…

TUESDAY TREAD: GMZ SPORTECH BEADLOCK RIMS & XC TIRES

Practically bulletproof By the staff of Dirt Wheels The desert is a relentless land of insanely rough terrain—from deep silt that will swallow a quad whole to mountains covered in boulders and coarse sand. The woods mixes mud, tree roots and big rocks on the trails and requires a good tire. Whenever we ride or race in the desert or woods on a sport quad, oftentimes we choose a tire and wheel combination that will stand the test of the terrain. GMZ Race Products came out with a new set of beadlock…

TUESDAY TREAD: GBC GRIM REAPER TIRES

A match for sand, mud or snow By the staff of Dirt Wheels Stock UTV tires are a necessary compromise. A company can’t very well supply different tires for machines heading to different parts of the country. Most brands sell the same machine in California, Washington, Maine and Florida, even though the terrain and tire needs are wildly different. Most production UTVs have tires that offer very good traction in our area, but they may not be the best at preventing flats in the relatively fast and…

TUESDAY TREAD: BKT AT 108 ALL-TERRAIN TIRE

-- Awesome tire at a low cost --  By the staff of Dirt Wheels. Dirt Wheels is constantly testing ATV and UTV tires. They range from highly specialized tires like those for rock crawling, desert or even mud tires. But, what if you’re one of those enthusiasts who is looking for a tire that can do all these types of riding well? That’s why we prefer a good all-terrain tire. They always work great for us here in the desert terrain of the West Coast, as we can experience sand, clay, rocks and even…

TUESDAY TREAD: STI WHEELS & TIRES

HD5 beadlock wheels mounted with Roctane XS tires By the staff of Dirt Wheels In the expanding UTV industry, more tire companies and models keep popping up; however, some tire companies have stuck around. One such company is STI Tire & Wheel. STI offers multiple tire varieties to handle many types of terrain. The company also offers beadlock rims and non-beadlock rims. We decided to go with STI’s HD5 beadlock wheels ($151.13 each) with red-colored rings ($37.99 each) and their Roctane XS tires…

TUESDAY TREAD: FUEL GRIPPER TIRE & VECTOR BEADLOCK WHEEL

-- DIRT WHEELS TIRE TEST: Tire and wheel that “fuel” your off-road fun -- We were impressed with the performance of the Gripper tire. It helped our Can-Am climb some gnarly rock terrain, worked great in the sand and improved the handling of the car on high-speed sections. When you hear the name Fuel wheels or Fuel tires, you probably think of their killer-performing and killer-looking truck tires and wheels. Well, recently they’ve started a full assault into the ever-growing UTV tire and wheel game. With…

TUESDAY TREAD: STI Outback Max Mud Tire

When you think of a description of a mud tire, the word “smooth” probably doesn’t come to mind. However, that was the first word that popped into our driver’s head when he first tested a machine equipped with STI’s new Outback Max mud tire. This huge tire has an aggressive V-shaped pattern with stepped lugs measuring 1.5 inches tall in the center. From there, the lugs stretch and grow to the outside and end up being a full 2 inches tall. The outer lugs are an angled, cupped design. There is a little side bite, but most of…

TUESDAY TREAD: RP Advanced Delta FX Sand Tire

In the January 2015 issue, right before the start of the winter dune season, we featured a buyer’s guide for UTV sand tires. One brand and style that stood out the most was the military-spec RP Advanced Delta FX Dune tire. This tire package included paddles on all four tires instead of just in the rear. It makes sense to use tires like this now that every UTV is fourwheel drive. Originally, the tire was developed for Special Forces operations in sandy parts of the world where the light tactical vehicles were used.…

TUESDAY TREAD: Moto Race Tire Hammer on OMF HP1 wheels

The tire wars are going full steam ahead right now. We are not talking about 18-inch MX tires or big lugged mud tires; these are 30-inch UTV tires. The most popular aftermarket tire choice for the 1000 high-performance sport machine is 30x10-14. However, some of us don’t like to follow the norm, and so we searched out something different. Instead of just putting the new Moto Race Tire Hammer tire to the test, we tried to create a tire and wheel package that would complement each other and provide a great end result.…

TUESDAY TREAD: BFGOODRICH KR2

UTV desert tires from a car tire company By the staff of Dirt Wheels BFGoodrich (BFG) has a long, impressive history in four-wheel off-road racing. Until recently, BFG only had tires for cars and trucks, but that has changed. UTV drivers can tap into that BFG history and racing success. BFG’s UTV tires only come in one tire size—30x9.5-15—so they won’t fit on the stock wheels. We tested the KR2s on a set of trick OMF beadlock wheels. The BFGs are about 2 pounds per tire heavier than the STI tires we tested in the last…
