UTV TURBOCHARGERS AND SUPERCHARGERS BUYER’S GUIDE
UTV TURBOCHARGERS AND SUPERCHARGERS
The latest in forced-induction power-up kits – By the staff of Dirt Wheels
Long before there were UTVs, duners were hopping-up all sorts of vehicles for ripping in the dunes. Steep, deep sand taxes engines to the max, so Can-Am became the first UTV manufacturer to add a factory turbocharger on the 2015 Maverick V-twin. Yamaha unleashed the YXZ1000R for 2016, and the aftermarket began modifying it for short-course Pro Stock and the fledgling Pro Turbo SxS class with great success. The aftermarket has been driving innovation and UTV evolution, starting with Weller Racing wedging Yamaha R1 engines into the Yamaha Rhino and creating the Weller SR1 class in LOORRS/GAS. Even as Can-Am and Polaris wage the UTV horsepower wars, duners and racers want more power than OEMs deliver. As OEMs, they have to factor in durability, so there is always more power to be had. Here are the latest ways to conquer dunes and wheelie up Oldsmobile Hill.
