WORCS ATV ROUND 5 AT GLEN HELEN RACEWAY WITH VIDEO

Rocky Mountain ATV/MC WORCS brings the racing action to Southern California to the famous Glen Helen Raceway for round 5 of the 2023 season. The unusual winter continued as the weather was an uncharacteristic cool, even chilly temperature all weekend. Each class seemed to get closer as this year progressed, and this weekend was no different. After a rocky start to his weekend, Beau Baron proves his championship mentality and claims another victory in the pro class. Cole Fryar brings home some hardware as he wins for the second round in a row and tightens the points in his class. Beau Baron has a pretty crazy weekend to start when the disciplines combine as he races his ATV and his Honda Talon SXS in the Pro Production and Pro Stock classes, but that was just the start of his weekend. As he went out for his practice on Saturday, he blew his engine and was forced to drive and pick up a new one and install it before his race on Sunday afternoon. He would make it to the line as Travis Damon, Braxton Grosse, Cody Sanford, and others lineup behind the gates to begin the battle. After the infamous Talladega, it would be Baron in front, with Grosse and Damon charging ahead behind him.

Grosse was just seconds behind him as they headed out on their third lap when disaster struck, as he put a hole in the bottom of his case, which ended his fight early. He replaced the engine, but by then, it was too late, as he had to settle for a DNF at this round. Baron and Damon entertained the crowd as this race was intense, with multiple passes for the lead over the 90-minute battle. The track crew built quite the pro section for these riders as it sent them down a steep rocky trail from the top of Glen Helen and down and through some wet, rocky creeks to give it an east coast GNCC feel for the West Coast racers.  In the end, it was Baron on top of the box, with Damon and Auston Baxter finishing the podium.

Pro-Am was stacked with 15 riders lined up behind the starting gates as they flew off the starting line, with Wyatt Rock grabbing the holeshot. Rock held onto the lead for the first three laps holding off the charging Cole Fryar as he started back in 4th but wasn’t going to be there for long as he found himself in 2nd by the second lap and made the pass for first by the fourth lap. Once Fryar had fresh air, he never relinquished that top spot, but it wasn’t without a fight from Gage Leaver, who kept Fryar in his sights for the entire race finishing just over 10 seconds behind in second place. In his first Pro-Am race of the 2023 season, Joshua Jackson was the surprise finisher as he came from tenth place up to finish in 3rd place. Dakota Hibler, one of our new Women’s Pro riders, had a rough get-off towards the finish of the race, but luckily, she is one tough rider as she is on the road to recovery, and we hope to see her back as soon as possible.

On Saturday, The women’s pro class lined up in the afternoon as the class has grown this year, and the battles are getting better with each round. Heidi Colman and Torey Matajcich came into the Talladega side by side as Matajcich found herself in the lead after and never looked back. Matajcich was the only one in her class to break into the 8-minute mark in lap times. Matajcich and Fryar separated from the main pack as they settled into a 1-2 with battles heating up behind her. Hibler was riding hard in third place, and Colman was gaining seconds each lap towards her and, on the 5th lap, made the final pass to grab the last podium position from Hibler.
