ALL-NEW 1500CC, 3-CYLINDER, 2024 POLARIS RANGER XD

Polaris is breaking down barriers again. Not only have they raised the bar in the performance SXS market with the Pro R, they are out doing the competition in the utility segment as well with the all new 2024 Polaris Ranger XD 1500. 

WHAT IS IT?

Like the XPEDITION the Ranger XD 1500 gets an all new beefed up chassis with a new ROPS system designed for better cab sealing. It has a similar interior and body lines but with 2 inches less wheel travel and a ten inch longer wheelbase.  What is significantly different is the engine. This machine has an all new, 3 cylinder, 1500cc power plant, that Polaris engineers tell is just like a ProR motor with one cylinder sliced off. What’s puzzling, is that instead of having 25-percent less power than the 225 hp ProR, it has less than half the horsepower at 110hp and 105 lb-ft of torque. 

Furthermore this new machine weighs significantly more than any other SXS out there at over 3300 pounds for the crew models. Another unique feature of this machine – Polaris ditched the rubber CVT belt in favor of an all new sealed CVT system which utilizes a steel belt bathed in oil offering service intervals stretched out to 6000 miles. Oil bathed CVT systems with steel belts are not new as they have been used in the automotive industry for decades. It should work fine for this Xtreme Duty Ranger.

HEAVY HAULING

Polaris claims, the bed capacity has been raised to 1500 pounds and the tow rating has been increased to 3500 pounds. Both are industry bests. The dumping bed is assisted by struts on the lower end models and is electronically assisted on the Ultimate trim. Twelve inches of wheel travel is found at both ends and the A-arms are beefed up but not as much as the  XPEDITION.

Furthermore, the wheel hubs are the stronger 5-lug patten and the fenders will clear a 32-inch tire, which Polaris sells as an accessory. From the factory, the 2024 Polaris Ranger XD 1500 comes with 29-inch (Premium) or 30-inch (NorthStar) tires on 15 inch wheels offering 15-inches of ground clearance.

MORE ABOUT THE POWERTRAIN

This is a ProStar engine built by Polaris. It features 110 horsepower and 105 lb-ft or torque. Polaris says it can go 2000-miles between oil changes. The STEELDRIVE transmission has the 6000 mile service interval that we mentioned before. At that time, Polaris tells us, it only needs an oil and filter change, nothing too complicated. This new system will also give the machine Hill Start Assist, smoother acceleration and better control at slow speeds.

PRICE

The 2024 Polaris Ranger XD 1500 starts at $29,999 for the 3-seat, Premium model.  The 6-seat crew option is $2500 more. $39,999 will get you the 3-seat NorthStar edition, but it will cost an extra $4500 for the crew. For the ultimate NorthStar trim, which includes heated seats, you will pay $44,999 for the 3-seater or $49,499 to take the whole crew with you. 

BUY IT?

The new 2024 Polaris Ranger XD 1500 will be available at dealers this Fall just in time for hunting and harvest season but keep in mind, Camo is only offered in the high end trim. As far as flagship utility models are concerned from other brands, this machine comes right on the heals of new Kawasaki Mule 1000 and Hondas Pioneer 1000-6.

As far as Xtreme Duty machines, Polaris is the category creator since there are no UTV’s with anywhere near the same hauling/towing capability as the XD 1500.
