RZR XP1000 LIMP MODE
DIALED IN WITH BOSS MCKANNICK
DW FAN WRITES IN: Recently on a trail ride with my 2023 Polaris RZR1000, it all of a sudden went into the dreaded “Limp Mode”. I tried turning off the switch and waited 5 minutes but when I restarted, it was still in “Limp Mode”. So we limped back to the truck and trailer and I towed it home. That ended the ride for the weekend. My son unloaded the RZR and put it in the garage but left the key on. I didn’t have a chance to look at it until the next weekend. I then discovered the key had been left on and the battery was dead. I removed the battery and placed it on a trickle charger for a couple of days to get the battery to accept a charge again. When the battery was recharged, I re-installed the battery and fired her up. NO MORE LIMP MODE! Boss, I don’t understand what happened. Can you explain? – Tim Stafford Corydon, KY
OUR PRO ANSWER: Sure, I can explain why the Limp Mode is gone but not what caused it in the first place, at least not without the fault codes your machine provided but you didn’t. Turning off the ignition and waiting 5 minutes does not reset the onboard ECU. But disconnecting the battery for longer than 30 minutes does. Your Son accidentally cleared the ECU’s memory when he left the ignition switch on. As to what caused your original problem, you need to access your fault codes by turning the ignition switch on, use the Mode Button to pull up the fault codes. Then do a Google search for each code displayed and the suggested repair sequence.
