KAYO S200 YOUTH SXS

Kayo has been manufacturing youth ATVs for more than a decade. New for 2024, Kayo enters the youth SxS market with its S200 designed for kids 10 and older, and the S200 will outperform most existing youth UTVs. Width is 10 inches wider than the RZR 200 with dual A-arm front suspension and trophy truck-like front-facing tie-rods with rack-and-pinion steering. Wheelbase is 74.8 inches, ground clearance is 9.1 inches, front and rear travel is 11 inches. It has 1.25-inch by 0.095-inch tubing with boxed and gusseted mounting points for its six-point roll cage,  and it has a rear differential and CV axles instead of chain and sprockets for more durability and ground clearance. Wide front A-arms have ball joints that can be pressed out and replaced.

Power is provided by a 196.2cc air- and oil-cooled SOHC single-cylinder engine mounted sideways behind the seats for better weight distribution and a CVT with dual shoulder-high snorkels. Horsepower is 13.41; the Hisun Strike 250R puts out 16.09, while the RZR 200 has 11.1. The oil cooler also sets between the bucket seats for increased air-flow and cooling, plus there is also an electric fan blowing on the rear side of the cylinder fins. The S200 has a carburetor instead of EFI, and the choke knob is on the dash above the ignition key.

Racey bucket seats have  10-position adjustment (6-inches) and four-point harnesses, allowing parents to fit in the spacious cabin. An over molded 13.8-inch steering wheel has universal six-bolt pattern and adjustable five-position tilt, but it takes a wrench to adjust. A digital gauge rides in the center of the dash with analog tach and digital speedometer plus an easy-to-read fuel gauge. Fuel capacity is 3.9 gallons (15L). There are toggle switches for ignition cut-off, horn, lights, and turn signals. The S200 has four LED headlights with projector lenses and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes with 6.9-inch front rotors and 6.3-inch rear rotor, and steel wheels have a 4x110mm pattern like the RZR 200. A roof is standard, as is a trailer hitch, and the passenger grab bar is padded. The S200 has an adjustable throttle limiter, safety flag, and LED tail- and brake-light.

CHECKING OUT THE S200

We got a chance to check out the Kayo S200 at Glen Helen Raceway on the Dirt Bike/Motocross Action ride day. Build quality is excellent, and the bed is tubular to save weight with a removable nylon bed cover. It comes off without tools to fill the fuel cell and inspect the engine compartment or clean the air filter. The photos Kayo provided of the S200 for the Buyer’s Guide had the steering rack behind the front A-arms and tie-rods going forward to the outer mounts, but the updated S200 has the steering rack in front with adjustable steel tie-rods.

The cockpit is roomy for larger youth or adult ride-alongs, and the stitched bucket seats are comfortable with a lot of adjustability. Harnesses are also standard and easy to use. It fired up easily and has a fairly quiet exhaust note, and maximum (unlimited) top speed is just under 35 mph. The preload-adjustable shocks have a firm feel and will break in with time. It has a low and wide stance for cornering, and the S200 specs say the tipping point is 25 degrees, and it’ll climb hills up to 25 degrees.

The Kayo S200 is loaded with a lot of features and performance for $5,599; the Hisun Strike 250R is also $5,599, and the Polaris RZR 200 is $6,799.
