PRODUCT: Leatt GPX 5.5 Helmet – Ultra Lightweight Extreme Safety
Leatt began business designing protective neck braces to prevent neck injuries. They have now jumped into the market of helmet safety. With the advancement in safety these days, you have features such as slimmer outer shells and anti-microbial and moisture-wicking liners that are incorporated into this helmet from Leatt. We got in contact with Leatt about testing their new off-road helmets, and they sent us their GPX 5.5 that retails for $449. Their lids offer great protection, great ventilation, are lightweight and also have a nice overall design to match your riding style and machine.
PROTECTION
We received our GPX 5.5 helmet in orange/black/red, and we were impressed with how well it looked and lightweight it is for the retail price of $449. This lid is made of a composite shell to minimize weight. Multidensity, 3-D-molded, 360-degree Turbine-technology V-Foam helps disperse energy from impacts. The 360-degree Turbine deforms to absorb impacts to help reduce concussions by reducing head movement in the helmet. Removable and washable moisture-wicking and anti-microbial liner fabric keeps you dry and cool in hot weather and warm in cool weather. Eleven multisized vent ports allow cool air to flow in and hot air to escape. These multi- sized vents are very effective at low speeds, not just at high speeds. The overall design and safety of the helmet is DOT and ECE approved, so you know it will hold up in the harshest impacts and crashes. The shell is designed to work with modern neck braces without any discomfort. You can adjust the visor with the adjustment knobs with gloves on. The aerodynamic design allows flowing air through the visor without any drag while still blocking the sun from above. It has a wide eyeport that accommodates most goggle sizes and brands and features a soft, pliable, rubber roost guard.
CONCLUSION
The Leatt GPX 5.5 is a very lightweight and comfortable helmet. With 10 color options to choose from, you can find the right one to match your machine and riding gear. During testing, our rider had nothing but compliments about this helmet. On hot days the 11 multi-sized vent ports allow the cool air in and the hot air to escape, keeping your head cool. On those colder days Leatt offers foam inserts to help reduce air-intake flow. The light weight reduces any strain or stress that can be put on the neck during riding. The overall design of the helmet works well with most brand neck braces for a comfortable fit. With a price of $449, you can add some style to your riding attire.
