TEXTRON TO ARCTIC CAT ENGINE SWAP?
WILL A HAVOC MOTOR FIT IN A STAMPEDE?
A DIRT WHEELS FAN WRITES: ”
I have a well-used 2018 Textron Stampede 4 EPS, and I was wondering if I could do an engine swap with an Arctic Cat Havoc X 1000. I ask because a neighbor’s son wadded their X into a large rock and wiped out the front end. He said I could purchase what I needed for a Grand. So Boss, what do you think about this proposed engine swap?” – Chad Cummings, Gillette, WY
OUR PRO ANSWER: Mechanically, the two engines will bolt up, and even the injector and ignition components are compatible. The main problem is the difference in the bore and stroke numbers. This effects the crankshaft position sensor rings called “Reluctor Rings”. The ECU in your Stampede will not correctly interpret the signals coming from the new Havoc engine. Thus, the engine will not run correctly if at all. So my recommendation is to not only grab the engine but also the ECU and its associated wiring. Also, it will be a big help to have both wiring diagrams handy to cross reference what goes where and why.
