INTEGRATING A YAMAHA FZ1 ENGINE INTO A DS650 QUAD
THE EPIC TRANSFORMATION: INTEGRATING A YAMAHA FZ1 ENGINE INTO A DS650 QUAD
Dear Dirt Wheels,
About 12 or 13 years ago, I had the opportunity to build one of the coolest machines that still holds a special place in my heart today. It’s a 2003 DS650 quad, but what sets it apart is the Yamaha FZ1 engine I carefully integrated into it. Despite searching extensively for a pre-built conversion quad, I couldn’t find one that met my standards, so I took matters into my own hands. I opted for the FZ1 engine due to its impressive torque capabilities. My ultimate goal was to create the fastest trail machine in the country, as anyone can build something for straight-line drag racing. With that in mind, I ventured down to my trusted race car fabrication shop and got to work. After a few weeks of dedicated craftsmanship, I proudly rolled out my creation and took it straight to the trails, ready to experience the thrill it promised.
