BUYER’S GUIDE: 10 WAYS TO CARRY MORE

10 WAYS TO CARRY MORE

Simple solutions for tight spaces By the staff of Dirt Wheels

UTVs keep getting bigger and bigger. However, it seems like there’s still a lack of space to bring along extra items that you might need out on the trail. We have put together a list of ideas and products that improve the carrying capacity of any UTV.

Ravek Waterproof Bag

Price: $149.95

Contact: www.ravek.com

The Ravek bag can be used as a day cooler and will attach anywhere you have a little extra room. Its MOLLE-panel holes help you secure it or attach additional items to it. From our experience, every storage bag in your ride should be waterproof to fight off an unexpected rainstorm or deep creek crossing. Bags are available in black or tan colors.

Ravek Sunglasses Holder

Price: $44.95

Contact: www.ravek.com

Until now, there has never been a convenient place to stow sunglasses on your machine while on a ride. Letting them bounce around in the glove box was the only option. Seeing this problem, Ravek developed a small padded holder that’s perfect for the task. In fact, we found that it works to hold phones and small optics as well.  The product can be strapped to any roll bar or attached to a flat surface with supplied 3M adhesive pads. They are so handy, you will want to buy more than just one.

Assault Roof-Mounted Radio

Price: $99.95

Contact: www.assaultind.com

Dash space has always been at a premium in UTVs. Assault Industries solves this dilemma with their under roof-mounted radio and intercom setup. It works with Rugged and PCI radios, as well as others. We have mounted one in a Honda Talon above and in front of the passenger. The driver can now see and operate the components easily. All you have to do is run the power wire into the box, and the antenna and helmet wires out of it, and everything else stays contained and out of the way. This leaves your dash space free for other accessories.

Assault Spare Tire Adventure Rack

Price: $724.95

Contact: www.assaultind.com

The Adventure rack gives you a solid, elevated platform to carry a spare tire while leaving the cargo area of your UTV free and available to carry the rest of the items you need. The platform is built to accept a Y-strap to secure the tire on top, and other items, like soft bags, can attach to the underside. Hinges allow you to lift the rack, but there’s plenty of room to grab items without lifting the tire. Fits up to a 35-inch tires and is rated for 75 pounds. Racks for RZRs and Can-Ams are also available.

DRT Tire Carrier

Price: $700

Contact: www.drtmotorsports.com

DRT’s Adventure rack covers the cargo area of the Polaris RZR Pro models while doubling as spare-tire storage. Hinges allow you to lift the rack to access the cargo underneath. Using this rack is a great way to carry a spare tire laying flat in a RZR. It also works prefect in conjunction with DRT’s Y-strap and spare-tire bag. DRT has storage solutions for Kawasaki, Can-Am, Segway, as well as other Polaris models.

DRT Spare-Tire Storage Bag

Price: $80

Contact: www.drtmotorsports.com

If you carry a spare tire like we always do, you will notice a huge void of empty space inside the wheel as it sits there. DRT’s spare-tire storage bag will fit inside many 15-inch-and-larger wheels and can carry important items, such as a plug kit, air compressor and a cordless impact gun. This bag is water-resistant, so it can handle a little rain and mud.

SuperATV Rear-Seat Conversion Kit

Price: $339.95

Contact: www.superatv.com

Do you own a four-seater but rarely have people in the back seats? If so, SuperATV has the conversion kits and cargo racks that will allow you to make better use of the empty space. The conversion kit turns the seating areas into a flat space—from the seat area and across the foot wells. Smaller cargo can be stashed through a small twist-off access cap and stays protected from the elements. Larger items can be stored on top. Or, SuperATV’s rear-seat cargo rack ($439.99) bolts to the stock seat bases, giving you a platform to tie down things like coolers and toolboxes.

SuperATV Outfitter Bed Rack

Price: $999

Contact: www.superatv.com

Do you own a utility UTV and try to bring everything that normally fits in a pickup bed? The Outfitter bed rack and roof rack ($599.95) are what you need. Moose Utility Trail Bag

Price: $24.95

Contact: www.mooseutilities.com

It’s a pet peeve of ours when we see trash on the trail; we always stop and pick it up. The Moose Trail bag is the perfect way to carry all kinds of rubbish back to camp. It’s made of a mesh vinyl material and can be attached via a bungee cord anywhere on your machine.  We leave one in the RV and use it as a dirty clothes bag, too. Any dealer should stock it or can order them for you.

Pro Armor Maverick R Storage Bags

Contact: www.proarmor.com

Pro Armor was one of the first companies to offer UTV doors and door bags. So, it was no surprise when they quickly jumped on creating storage bags for Can-Am’s new Maverick R. Additionally, they came up with slick trunk-side storage bags, filling the small pockets inside the cargo area of the R. The bags ended up being the perfect spot to carry tire-repair tools, such as a 3/8-inch impact gun, tow ropes and our CO2 bottles. Pro Armor has knee-pad/door bags for most sport UTVs starting at $110.
