ALL-NEW 2024 CAN-AM MAVERICK R CLOSER LOOK

WE ARE UPDATING THIS POST FREQUENTLY AS WE RECEIVE INFORMATION DIRECT FROM CAN-AM.

This is the Maverick R X rs Smart-Shox edition. The control layout appears to be well organized. Here, we get our first look at the shifter for the all-new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Notice the Override button at the bottom of the console. You can also spot the paddle shifters behind the race-inspired steering wheel.  Leg room looks as spacious as ever.

There’s a 7.5-inch digital dash on the steering column, and a massive 10.5-inch full color touchscreen above the console. We’ve seen other pictures with GPS navigation.

Can-Am packed 240 horses into this new 999cc triple-cylinder Rotax engine. The engine has three performance modes, NORMAL-SPORT-SPORT+. SPORT modes take shifter points to a higher RPM. SPORT+ allows for higher turbo spooling while temporarily shutting down a cylinder.

Here you can see the massive turbo. The cylinders have a Plasma coating rather than a sleeve (similar to Nikasil), which dissipates heat much faster.

The front suspension with it’s heavy duty tall-knuckle design is a first for side-by-sides. There’s 25 inches of wheel travel up front and 17 inches of ground clearance. The car comes with 32-inch tires on beadlock wheels, but we’re told it can accept up to a 35-inch tire.

The 4-link trailing arm and forged aluminum heavy-duty knuckle allows up to 26 inches of suspension travel. Check out the new 6-lug hubs. It is 77 inches wide to stay under Best In The Desert 80-inch wide regulations.

FOX Shox include tender springs, full adjustability, and the Smart Shox Edition comes with electronic Live Valve tech.

The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission should easily get more horsepower to the rear wheels with it’s beltless direct drive setup, so take that into consideration when comparing it to a car equipped with a CVT. This DCT has high/low range and a cooling system. Can-Am tells us you can switch between Hi and Low on the fly, so if you’re in 7th gear in low range and switch to Hi-range, it will find the correct gear (4th) in the transition. This transmission has been in development and through extensive testing for the last eight years.
