THE YAMAHA BANSHEE IS BACK!
THE YAMAHA BANSHEE IS BACK!
Faster, wider, stronger… and electric?

The dirt has never been the same since the Yamaha Banshee roared onto the scene in the mid-1980s, and now it’s back. But, this isn’t the screaming two-stroke monster of old. The Yamaha Banshee 3000E is an all-electric, high-performance quad ready to redefine the future of off-road domination. Yamaha has poured decades of history and innovation into this machine, delivering a sport quad that’s a homage to its predecessor and a full-throttle lightning leap into the future. Yamaha exclusively shared information, limited specs and these final-concept production images with Dirt Wheels at the beginning of the year.
A RADICAL REDESIGN FOR A NEW ERA
The Yamaha Banshee 3000E has been completely re-imagined, starting with its dimensions. This quad measures an aggressive 52 inches wide, providing unparalleled stability for high-speed cornering and extreme terrain. The sleek, low-profile bodywork is crafted from aerospace-grade carbon composite, reducing weight and making it virtually indestructible. With its glowing LED accents and futuristic design, the 3000E looks more like something from Battlestar Galactica than an off-road vehicle.
ELECTRIC POWER THAT THRILLS
At the heart of the Banshee 3000E is Yamaha’s groundbreaking Dual Core Hyperdrive electric drive system, boasting an astonishing 113 horsepower and 95 pound-feet of torque. Instant throttle response allows for extreme acceleration, launching riders from 0 to 60 mph in a blistering 2.9 seconds. Yamaha has yet to reveal the 3000E’s weight, but acceleration specs suggest it’s lighter than expected.
The top speed? Electronically capped at 85 mph—for safety, of course—but a secret “Screamer mode” unlocks the full potential of this beast, propelling it to a jaw-dropping 110 mph. Yes, triple-digit speeds are no longer the realm of fantasy for quad riders.

SUSPENSION THAT DEFIES GRAVITY
The Banshee 3000E is a suspension engineer’s dream come true. Equipped with a fully adjustable 18-inch long-travel independent suspension front and rear, Yamaha claims it handles whoops, jumps, and rocky terrain in a way that will have riders staying on the throttle through rugged terrain. The advanced SmartRide AI suspension system dynamically adjusts damping rates on the fly using all-new magnetic-pole-opposition technology, ensuring optimal performance whether you’re carving dunes or tackling rocky trails. You can also change ride height/preload on the fly with five presets on a digital switch where you normally find a clutch perch.
For added flair, the suspension arms are forged from titanium with an iridescent finish that changes color under sunlight, so why not make it look as wild as it performs?
BATTERY TECH THAT GOES THE DISTANCE
Range anxiety? Forget about it. The Banshee 3000E features Yamaha’s proprietary ThunderCore solid-state battery system, delivering up to 200 miles of range on a single charge. And, if you’re in a hurry, the quad supports ultra-fast charging, taking the battery from 0 to 100 percent in under an hour.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original 1987 Yamaha Banshee and its Mexico victories piloted by the legendary desert racer Dean Sundahl, Yamaha is already planning endurance and distance sustainability testing at the 60th anniversary of the NORRA/SCORE Baja 1000. The race will begin in Tijuana, cross the Baja Peninsula three times on the way to La Paz, circle through San Jose del Cabo, and return north to Ensenada for a total distance of 2400-plus miles. Yamaha will swap batteries every other pit, or approximately 140 miles, using wheeled high-clearance autonomous robots that can complete the swap in approximately 25 seconds.
RIDER-CENTRIC TECHNOLOGY
The 3000E’s dash is a tech enthusiast’s paradise. A holographic display provides real-time performance stats, three-dimensional GPS navigation and live terrain mapping. The system also includes a “Platoon comm” feature for the weekend warrior, allowing multiple Banshee riders to sync their routes for group adventures.
But, we’re told the real magic lies in the AI-powered Co-Pilot mode. This feature uses advanced sensors to monitor terrain, rider inputs and speed, offering real-time feedback to help you nail every line. It’s like having a professional trainer riding alongside you, except it doesn’t steal your snacks.

UNLEASHING THE BANSHEE’S WILD SIDE
Yamaha has gone all out to honor the rebellious spirit of the original Banshee. With a customizable “Power Scream” feature that resembles the original Banshee’s dual exhaust, riders can emulate the sound of the iconic two-stroke engine pumped through twin-tube subsonic speakers—or choose from a library of other sound and aftermarket exhaust profiles, as well as turbo whistles, V8 growls, and even…a jet engine! Poking humble fun at themselves, Yamaha also included a worn-out Banshee kick-stater jingle that can be added to any sound profile. So far, aftermarket pipe sound profiles include Duncan PTR mid-range National pipes, Toomey T5s, CT Racing drag pipes, or the unique Indy car sound of the Moto-Fast two-into-one pipe.
For those who desire more nostalgia, a faux gas cap can be removed to reveal a scented oil diffuser. The heat from the batteries melts wax fragrance “Yama-Pods” that smell like your favorite two-stroke mix. Yamalube 2R, Maxima 927 castor, Bel-Ray 2T and other Yama-Pods will all be available through ShopYamaha.com. When stopped on the dunes and trails, a small electric fan in the cap funnels the non-toxic aroma upwards and into your helmet.
For the bold, the optional “Drift Master” mode makes sliding through corners a breeze by modulating power delivery and rear-wheel traction. Aggressive foot pegs retract electronically when the 3000E shuts down. Add to that the integrated 360-degree LED under-glow lighting system, and you’ve got a quad that’s as wild to look at as it is to ride.
SUPERIOR BRAKING TAKES YOU FARTHER
The Banshee 3000E is equipped with Yamaha’s ProActive Stability Control system and advanced regenerative braking for precise stopping power. Front and rear control-arm stabilizers create energy while cornering, which is transferred back to the battery. Likewise, regenerative braking creates a higher volume of stored energy. It’s not enough to make the 3000E completely self-charging, but that could happen as e-tech advances.
In the event of a power surge or loss, a solar-charging canopy option deploys like a pop-up tent to keep the juice flowing. There’s also a biometric ignition system, ensuring only the owner can start the quad—a must-have for a machine sure to be coveted.
PAY TO PLAY
All this technology and performance comes at a cost, of course. The Yamaha Banshee 3000E is tentatively slated with an MSRP of $29,999, with optional performance and cosmetic packages that can push the price well past $33,000. However, the price is a minor hurdle for die-hard enthusiasts and those looking to own the most high-tech ATV ever created. It’s also less than consumers currently pay for a Polaris Pro R side-by-side.
WE CAN’T WAIT!
We’re stoked to get our first ride aboard a Banshee 3000E prototype at the Yamaha Motor Corp. training facility in Newnan, Georgia, later this summer! Yamaha claims we’ll be impressed at how stable the electronic smart AI suspension system reacts at over 100 mph.
So, when can you experience the Banshee 3000E? You’ll have to wait until next year when the first units leave the assembly line and are delivered to dealerships on April 1, 2026. Start saving those pennies now!
